The phrase 'once in a blue moon' has its origins in the infrequent occurrence of two full moons appearing within a month. This phenomenon brings this August 2023 a unique blend of lunar energies, helping us elevate our connection to ourselves as well as this Earthly experience. This Super Pisces Blue Full Moon brings in an atmosphere of heightened spiritual awareness and self-discovery to the forefront, lasting around 3-5 days, although the effects can be felt prior to the full moon.

As the moon reaches its fullness, the light acts as a metaphysical spotlight, illuminating the crossroads between our conscious and subconscious mind. This creates a bridge between the known and the hidden, inviting us to explore the depths of our inner world, some of which may feel unpleasant or uncomfortable as some of the wounds can run deep. Anything hidden or suppressed will be illuminated during the Full Moon, which requires us to be vulnerable and surrender to all that is shown. As this Super Full Moon is in Pisces, a sign of compassion, we are asked to be just as compassionate and kind to ourselves as we are with others. The same love and grace we extend to our loved ones when they are going through challenging times, we should give to ourselves, especially during this Virgo season, a sign known to be very harsh to themselves (and others). This juncture amplifies our intuition, which makes it an ideal time to reflect on our desires, wounds, fears and aspirations that often remain obscured beneath the surface.

The Pisces Full Moon may take us into a realm of heightened spirituality and emotional sensitivity. It resonates with the mysticism that Pisces embodies, while simultaneously challenging us through its opposite sign Virgo, with its practicality. With the Sun currently at 7 degrees in Virgo, we have an abundance of analytical energy, prompting us to assess how well we integrate our spiritual inclinations into our everyday lives. There is a call for us to check in with ourselves and whether we have a balance between our spirituality (Pisces) and navigating the demands of our physical world (Virgo). How can we implement spiritual, mystical and magical practices in our daily routines and every day lives? Are we far too practical, with lack of magic and mysticism in our daily lives, or are we drowning in the waters of spirituality, with no structure in our lives? Now is the time to embrace the two polarities between Virgo and Pisces, creating a healthy balance to move forward with.

Ruled by Neptune, Pisces draws from the realm of myths and dreams. In the currents of everyday life, illusions can lead us astray. This lunar phase encourages us to take a look at illusions in our lives and confront any self-imposed limitations. The mythology surrounding Neptune, the God of the Sea, which can be both calming and treacherous (just as our thoughts and feelings can be) serves as a reminder of the wisdom we can gain when we navigate through the waters of self-deception. Rather than deferring our dreams to an uncertain future, Neptune's energy inspires us to keep dreaming big but to use the Earthly Virgo energy of the season to take tangible steps toward our aspirations. This is the perfect time to transform “I’ll do it one day” to “I’ll do it today” - this is true alchemy.

Lower natures of the sign of Pisces includes people pleasing and tendencies to self-sacrifice. Therefore, this Full Moon casts a revealing light on any such patterns, for the intention to feel, heal and release. It's so easy to find ourselves extending more energy outward than we invest in ourselves, giving so much to others when we have not tended to our own cup leaves us feeling depleted. This celestial moment serves as a mirror, highlighting where we've been sacrificing our wellbeing to avoid conflict with others, to please others even if it is a detriment to ourselves or based on unconscious programmed patterns. Breaking free from these behaviours requires a conscious choice to recalibrate our energy distribution. The Super Full Moon in Pisces reminds us that embracing self care without guilt, is an act of empowerment rather than selfishness. When we tend to our own garden and fulfil ourselves, then we can be the best version of ourselves to others.

Saturn, the planet of structure, restrictions, boundaries is conjunct (close alignment) the Pisces Full Moon. This aspect prompts us to assess the boundaries we've established in our lives. Are these boundaries supportive or restrictive? Saturn's presence urges us to redefine our limits, embarking on a journey of self-discovery where we identify which boundaries empower our growth and which inhibit our progress. Related to boundaries, from a different perspective, Pisces is a sign which can sometimes be prone to lacking boundaries, symbolically represented by its element Water. Saturns influence on this Super Full Moon asks us to check in with the boundaries we’ve set with others. Are we honouring our boundaries or are we allowing them to be infiltrated to keep the peace? Taking the time to release any guilt associated with placing boundaries is crucial this Full Moon. By reminding ourselves that the boundaries we set are to protect ourselves, not to offend others, we stay true to our principles and manage the behaviours of others effectively. We cannot control the reactions of others to our boundaries but we can tap into the magical Piscean energy and transmute any uncomfortable reactions or feelings from others in relation to our boundaries, through music, spiritual practices, relaxation, visualisation and so on.

In the midst of this special celestial contemplation, let's not overlook the physical vessel that carries us through life's journey. In astrological anatomy Pisces governs the feet and lymph nodes. Treating yourself to a foot soak or reflexology massage can ground and rejuvenate your entire being. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, reflexology suggests that certain points of our feet are connected to specific organs and body parts, similarly to how Pisces, the 12th sign has energy from all the previous signs. Additionally, embracing practices that promote lymphatic (governed by Pisces) circulation, such as gentle exercise and hydration. Anything we do for the three days of the Full Moon energy to Pisces ruled anatomy can be doubly beneficial + preventative. As we are in Virgo season, which rules the digestive and nervous systems, we are asked to not only take care of what we put in our stomach, but also our minds. The mind/gut axis reminds us of the strong connection between the two. Aligning with the Piscean energy, we can explore holistic approaches that honour the interconnectedness of the body, mind + spirit.

As Pisces is the last sign of the Zodiac this moment is a period of deep closure and endings, making space for new. Old habits, toxic behaviours, people and patterns are prompted by this energy for release. With all endings serve a beautiful new beginning. Allow yourself to feel, heal, flow and let go. Don’t fight anything that comes up and tap into the Piscean energy of surrender, to all that was and all that is. May this lunar event inspire transformative growth and a deepened connection with both our inner selves as well as the world around us.

Blessings in abundance,

Katarina
